OIL TANK SERVICES
As we all know, leaking underground storage tanks continue to cause difficulty and delay in the process of buying and selling homes. We also know that the Northeast contains the largest concentration of homeowners utilizing oil as a fuel for heat, and thus the largest amount of tank owners. Not all tanks are leaking, but knowing which ones are is the only way make the real estate transaction process smooth.
The ability to do business in this market is linked to the ability to identify leaking tanks and deal with them.
A tank assessment is designed to identify leaking underground storage tanks. The tank assessment consists of the installation of up to four soil probes around the exterior of the underground tank. These probes are retracted and soils from below the bottom of the tank are checked for evidence of oil. It provides data useful within the probability range of 90% for general leakage and 99% for catastrophic releases. It is a qualitative test performed by experienced assessors.
Dorson works in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and many other states. We are certified with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and OSHA for this type of work.
- Dorson will take necessary steps to identify subsurface utilities at boring site.
- Dorson will make all necessary arrangements with the homeowner.
- Soil borings do not damage lawn areas, being just 1.5” in diameter.
- Soil borings are placed away from the tank and therefore do not harm the tank.
- The entire process takes approximately two hours, no access to the house is typically required, and therefore the homeowner does not need to be present.
- All test results are confidential.
