OIL TANK SERVICES As we all know, leaking underground storage tanks continue to produce claims, often resulting in significant losses. We also know that the Northeast contains the largest concentration of homeowners utilizing oil as a fuel for heat, and thus the largest amount of tank owners. Not all tanks are leaking, but knowing which ones are is the only way insurers can limit their exposure. The opportunity to provide insurance to this huge market rests in the ability to limit the risk of large losses through the identification of large oil spills. A tank assessment is designed to identify enhanced risk associated with leaking underground storage tanks. The tank assessment consists of the installation of up to four soil probes around the exterior of the underground tank. These probes are retracted and soils from below the bottom of the tank are checked for evidence of oil. It provides data useful within the probability range of 90% for general leakage and 99% for catastrophic releases. It is a qualitative test performed by experienced assessors. Dorson works in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and many other states. Dorson maintains certification in most states and is also certified by OSHA.
Dorson presently operates several tank assessment units throughout the Northeast and stands ready. Turnaround time from agent call to results is typically two - three days; however more rapid requests can also be accommodated, if required. Please call our New York office at 914-592-3117 to make arrangements.
